The St Kilda Food Van
At the invitation of Fr Bob Maguire, Edmund Rice Centre Amberley, in partnership with the Parish of St Peter and Paul, South Melbourne, co-ordinates a Food Van outside the Gatwick Private Hotel in St Kilda every Wednesday evening. The Gatwick is a wet establishment that offers very low budget accommodation to some very vulnerable people. Each week students and members of the Edmund Rice Network serve up stacks of toasted cheese sandwiches, an overflowing pot of hot dogs and welcoming cups of hot drinks to a most appreciative community.
An important aspect of Amberley’s involvement in this
program is the development of relationships that will enable mutual growth. Over the six months that has witnessed the establishment of this ministry on a Wednesday evening, a growing number of people have enjoyed staying around the van to engage in conversation with the volunteers. A regular highlight for visitors and volunteers alike are Rish’s cup cakes. They are always received with enthusiasm.
