News: Fire Carriers Commissioned

At our recent staff meeting, Edmund Rice Centre Amberley commissioned its Fire Carriers for 2010. Di Castle, Rish Lappin and Peter Hay were commissioned by Felicity Oxnam of Opening the Doors Foundation and Vicki Walker Clark of Aboriginal Catholic Ministry to keep the flame of reconciliation alive within the Amberley community and all who make connection with it.

In the prayer of blessing we all reflected on the following words which encapsulate the significance of the fire carrier role.

Spirit of Fire, be on our lips, that we may speak the truth in kindness

Spirit of Fire, put your glow in our eyes, that we may see what is

Good in life and in people.

Spirit of Fire burn in our ears, that we may hear with deep listening

Spirit of Fire, be in our arms and hands, that we may serve others with care.

Spirit of Fire, be in our legs and feet so that we may walk the earth

With respect and thanks for its life giving nourishment

Spirit of Fire, brand our hearts with the eternal flame of your love,

That we may become the bearers of peace, beauty, hope, harmony and

Reconciliation.
